August 1st came waaaay too soon, this year...
I was reflecting on the year so far, yesterday, and I’ve decided that August 1st came waaaay too soon, this year...
It’s been a while since I updated everyone on what’s going on, so here goes.
Projects:
Criss, Carter and I have been working in tandem to get Jean Archer #3 done and ready for a Fall 2023 release. The edits coming back from Criss are guiding me around the storied landmines and Carter has once again stepped up and nailed that cover. (A reveal will be announced, shortly.)
A couple days ago, I began putting together the outline for Jean Archer Interlude #3, and started writing. I’m happy with how the beginning of the novelette is going, and I hope to have it done shortly after Jean Archer #3 is out.
I’ve returned to the Kindle Vella stories, as well. They got put on hold while I pushed to get Jean Archer #3 done, but they make for a nice diversion, when my brain gets too full.
Events:
FanX in SLC is still up in the air. I may or may not be there, depending on at least 2 factors out of my control. As more info is available, I’ll let everyone know.
We do have a launch event at the Orem, UT, Barnes & Noble on October 14th, at 2pm. I’ll update everyone on that, as well.
Future Plans:
The question has come up as to how long the Jean Archer adventures are going to be. Those of you with early editions will note that in the “Also By the Same Author” shows The Jean Archer Quartet. 4 books and 3 interludes seemed like plenty to tell Jean’s story, back when I originally created the characters and planted them in Shadow Valley.
However, my creative mind being as fragmented as it is, I’ve not only created the 4 books, 3 interludes, plus the backstory for the characters and the area of Shadow Valley. Jean Archer Early Adventures on Vella has turned out to be a fun place to showcase that content that wouldn’t likely have ever seen the light of day.
So, the question now is, with the readership of the Jean Archer books increasing, should the stories be limited to the original 4 books. Years have passed since creating SoulChaser, which Jean Archer is a part of, and at the time 4 book made sense. Now, with the work already done, and due to the natural growth and maturation of the idea, it’s possible that more than 4 stories are begging to be told.
I’m interested in anyone’s thoughts on extending Jean Archer beyond the original 4 books.
All the best,
J-
