I was at my local Scheels, yesterday, when something happened that actually warmed my heart. As I was leaving the store, a little girl behind me, that was with her family heading in through the same door I’d exited, called out, “George Washington!”
Curious, I turned and watched a she ran up to the President statue sitting on an outside bench and softly put a hand on his knee. Then she ran to join her family.
I’m sure the small gesture went unnoticed by many, and may not have meant anything to the little girl, (my mind reading skills are a little rusty), but my heart sped up and I felt a warmth course through me.
As one who’s expressed a lot of concern to family and friends about the patriotism I feel is starting to be lost throughout this magnificent country of ours, just that one moment of respect and enthusiasm shown by a girl likely no more than 10, reaffirmed in my mind that there are great ones growing in our homeland, those that will one day rise and become the leaders of our nation. And we are responsible for nurturing, guiding and protecting those future leaders. It’s a massive undertaking, but one I feel we’re all capable of succeeding at.
Meanwhile, when I grow up, I wanna be like that little girl…
Best wishes,
